Nutrition is another important part of pregnancy, as it is essential to get all of the necessary nutrients, vitamins and minerals for your baby. Drinking water is a sometimes overlooked part of nutrition, but is important for staying hydrated and carries nutrients from your food to your baby. You’ll want to consume protein, carbohydrates, calcium, iron, Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Vitamin B6, Vitamin B12, Vitamin D, folic acid and limited amounts of fat.

Foods to avoid, however, include raw or undercooked meats, eggs or poultry, fish high in mercury, unpasteurized milk, caffeine, soft cheeses, unwashed vegetables, raw shellfish, smoked seafood, deli meat, pate and, of course, alcohol. Fertility clinics often offer nutritional counseling for women unsure of the diet they should adopt while pregnant.
